Diamant de Semilly, producer of sport horses and sires

Posted on 06 Sep 2022 by Charlotte Smet

This past weekend, German rider Christian Kukuk claimed the win in the LGCT Grand Prix of Rome aboard the 10-year-old BWP stallion, Mumbai. This victory marks the fourth win for Diamant de Semilly offspring in the Longines Global Champions Tour 2022 season so far. Christian Ahlmann's Dominator 2000 Z has already taken the top spot on two different occasions, in Hamburg and Stockholm, while Marlon Modolo Zanotelli's Like A Diamond van het Schaeck managed to triumph in Paris.

Producer of high-level sport horses

Diamant de Semilly currently has over 4000 registered offspring in the Hippomundo database of which over 200 have competed at 1.60m level in our sport. The Selle Francais stallion himself passed away earlier this year, but his legacy lives on in his offspring. During the past 365 days, 919 Diamant de Semilly progeny competed internationally. Nine of those have won over €100,000 in prize money during that time period. Conor Swail's Vital Chance de la Roque for example won no less than 9 classes at the 3* and 4* level. H&M Miro, Antidote de Mars, Ilex VP, Arioto du Gevres, Blood Diamond du Pont... are all horses who have left a positive impact on the sport lately.

Producer of sires

Not only does Diamant de Semilly seem to pass on the genes for performance, his approved sons are showing great promise as sires themselves. At the moment, there are 223 approved stallions by Diamant de Semilly in our database, many of which still are or have been active at the highest levels of the sport. This season's LGCT Grand Prix winners Dominator 2000 Z and Mumbai are just two examples.

Back in 2016-2019, Dutch rider Harrie Smolders had two world class horses in his string with Don VHP Z and Emerald. The latter is now gaining more and more traction as a sire with almost 2000 registered offspring in the Hippomundo database and over 30 horses competing at 1.60m level. Some of his sons are already promising sires themselves. Smolders saw a worthy successor in Escape Z, while Cian O'Connor sees great promise in Taj Mahal.

Elvis ter Putte competed in the sport himself from 2012 to 2017 and achieved great success mainly at 2* and 3* level up to 1.60m under Karline de Brabander. Three of his approved sons are currently active at the highest levels of our sport. Ioli Mytilineou's Levis de Muze was the talk of the 2021 European Championships in Riesenbeck, while Bernardo Alves and Mosito vh Hellehof have already won a 3* and a 4* Grand Prix this season.

This season's most successful Diamant offspring is Dominator 2000 Z. After two LGCT victories and a 22nd place finish in the FEI Jumping World Championship, that title is more than earned. Although Dominator's oldest descendants are just eight years old, there are already 1450 registered offspring in our database. The eight-year-old stallion D'Aganix 2000 Z shows great promise both in the ring and in breeding.
