The production of young horses is a vital step in the creation of top-level sporthorses. Young horse riders spend a lot of time and effort to make sure they can offer each horse the best education they can give. Hippomundo would like to shine a light on these riders by discussing the riders who have competed a minimum of five young horses (aged 4-5-6-7) in international competitions since the start of 2021 based on their placing percentages.
Russian rider Anastasia Sherbakova has competed a total of six young horses in international competitions since the start of the year and achieved an impressive placing percentage of 85.0%. She was particularly successful with the six-year-olds Crossfire van de Leuba and Kansas.
With a placing percentage of 80% in international competitions with young horses, the Italian Aldo Intagliata can call himself the second most successful young horse rider of the year so far. He has had great successes this season in the saddle of Patcho D V, Passe Partout van de Koeboshoeve and Faustino, who qualified for the final of the World Championships for five-year-olds in Lanaken in September.
British rider Christopher Smith has been placed in 79.4% of the classes he rode young horses in so far this year. Christopher is currently in Oliva where he has been having great results in the six-year-old classes aboard BE Golden and Messarado Blue.
Placing in 76.3% of the classes he jumped with young horses, Greek rider Aggelos Touloupis currently places fourth in this ranking. He has had a great season with the five-year-old Kannandillo, who qualified for the final of the World Championships in Lanaken, amongst other great results with Kanthago de Revel and Criminal Love.
Laura Renwick completes the top five with a placing percentage of 75.7%. She has been particularly successful with her seven-year-old homebred Cottee. This combination has collected a total amount of over €14,000 in prize money in nine and a half months.
