Today, we're going to look at horses that have already reached the peak of their careers but are still performing at a high level, namely the 16-year-olds.

MoM's Toupie de la Roque way out in front

With a Hippomundo index of 132, MoM's Toupie de la Roque, the daughter of Kannan, is well ahead of the pack with over €280,000 in earnings in 2023 with her rider Pieter Devos. As a reminder, she was second at the Global Champions Tour in Cannes last June with her Belgian rider.

The son of Count Grannus, Count Me In, takes second place in this ranking with over €179,000 in earnings this year with Irish rider Conor Swail. Together, the pair finished second in the CSI2* GP in Bridgehampton (USA).

Contendros 2 completes the podium with over €168,000 in earnings this year. Born to Wilhelm Berghorn, the son of Contendro I was fifth in the CSIO GP in Calgary (CAN) with Mexican rider Andres Azcarraga.

Chacco Blue II is fourth with over €140,000 in earnings so far this year. The son of Chacco Blue, born Gestüt Lewitz/Paul Schockemöhle, distinguished himself at the Ocala World Cup earlier this year, finishing third under the saddle of Brazilian Santiago Lambre.

Creedance, Kent Farrington's gelding, completes the top 5 with 4 victories in 145-150 events this year out of 21 completed courses. The son of Lord Z has earned over €105,000 this year.

This year, 794 horses aged 16 entered international events. Although some of them have been downgraded, these older horses, with all their experience, are also enabling a number of young riders to gain experience in more important events, in keeping with the adage: young rider ... old horse!
