Last week you could already read about the World Championships in Lanaken. We investigated whether the World Championship can predict the future and looked at the WC in 2010. The final score was better than expected...
Among the 5-year-olds, the selection of 42 finalists produced ten 1m60 horses, six 1m50 jumpers and six 1m45 jumpers. In the 6-year-olds, 35 of the 50 jumpers managed to grow to 1m45 or higher and in the 7-year-olds, 33 of the 40 jumpers jumped 1m45 or higher. But wasn't 2010 just an exceptional year?
Let's take a look at 2011!
5 year old horses
42 five-year-olds competed in the final in 2010, in 2011 they were no less than 58!
In 2011, the most beautiful medal of honor went to Yves Vanderhasselt with Gladys,. That gold medal was only the beginning of Gladys' career, because under the saddle of the Swedish Jonna Ekberg the mare was still successful up to 1m60 level. For example, they finished fifth in the CSIO5* Grand Prix of Sopot!
Silver was for René Tebbel who was only a fraction slower with Café's Champus. Café Champus later came under the saddle of Tim Rieskamp-Gödeking who jumped him until 1m45 level. Fun fact, his full brother Café's Casimir competes at international dressage level under the saddle of Claudia Rassmann.
Bronze was for Jacek Bobik and Chacco-Fly in 2011. This son of Chacco-Blue is currently jumping at 1m40 level with the German Paul Wiktor.
In fourth place we see another big international name. In 2011 she competed under the name Gwindeline with Guillaume Ruant, meanwhile she is better known as Hello M'Lady. This daughter of Indoctro x Baloubet du Rouet won her last show under Scott Brash: the World Cup in Verona! In addition, they already won the 1m60 during CSI5* GCT Mexico, the CSI5* GCT Grand Prix of Monte Carlo and the World Cup of CSI5* London, just to name a few!
Fifth place went to Ivan Serrano Saenz and Casco. He later competed at 1m50 level under the saddle of Sander Geerink.
