The Olympic Games in Paris are set to begin in a week, and the selections have been finalized. We investigated whether there is a correlation between the prize money won by riders and their selection for the Olympics. Apparently there is.

Germany: The undisputed leader

German riders have accumulated a total income of €17,904,846 in the past year, the highest among all countries. The top three riders, Christian Kukuk, Richard Vogel, and Philipp Weishaupt, each earned over €1,000,000, with Christian Kukuk winning more than €2,000,000. These three riders, along with their horses Checker 47, United Touch S, and Zineday, will be representing Germany in Paris. The 1,470 German riders earn an average of €12,180 each.

France: The host nation in second place

French riders have earned a total of €16,137,697, placing them second. The highest earners are Julien Epaillard with €1,385,733, Simon Delestre with €1,340,254, and Kevin Staut with €713,814. These three riders, and their horses I.Amelusina R 51, Dubai du Cèdre, and Viking d'la Rousserie, will compete for the Olympic title next week in their home country. With 3,133 riders, the average earnings per French rider are €5,151, significantly lower than Germany, but France has more than twice the number of riders.

High average earnings in the USA

The United States ranks third with a total income of €16,122,639. The leading riders are Kent Farrington with €1,243,605, Karl Cook with €1,134,811, and McLain Ward with €1,115,907. Notably, only 623 riders compete under the American flag, resulting in an impressive average earning of €25,879 per rider.

Other contenders: Ireland and Belgium

Ireland and Belgium follow in fourth and fifth places, respectively.
