The Excitement Builds for the Second Phase of the BWP Stallion Approval 2025. Hippomundo is ready to keep you fully informed as we approach the second phase of the prestigious BWP Stallion Approval 2025, organized by the Belgian Warmblood Studbook (BWP). Starting now, you can find the complete list of candidate stallions on our website, including detailed pedigrees. This provides a unique insight into the bloodlines and dam lines of the stallions participating in this renowned evaluation.

The Belgian Warmblood Studbook (BWP) will host its stallion approval event from January 8 to 11, 2025, at Azelhof in Lier (Belgium).

In the showjumping discipline, a total of 96 stallions will participate, including: 55 three-year-old stallions born in 2022, 13 older stallions from the BWP studbook, and 28 stallions from other studbooks, of which 7 are older than three years. For the dressage discipline, 12 stallions will compete, with 7 originating from the BWP studbook.

Emerald: Most Represented Sire

With no fewer than seven offspring among the candidate stallions, Emerald van 't Ruytershof continues to assert his influence in showjumping breeding in 2025. However, as a dam sire, Emerald does not appear on this year's list. Instead, his sire, Diamant de Semilly, is featured nine times as the sire of the dams of the candidates.

Interestingly, the young stallion Cavalier Russe Z is close on Emerald’s heels with six sons participating in this edition of the BWP Stallion Approval, followed by Eldorado van de Zeshoek and Pegase van 't Ruytershof.

Sports Performance and Known Mother Lines: the Foundation of Top Candidates?

In our analysis, we take a closer look at the dam lines of the candidate stallions. How diverse is the bloodline distribution in this edition’s candidate list for the BWP Stallion Approval? And what impact will the sport performances of the dams—so-called Black Type mares—have on the quality of these candidates?

Less than 20% of candidates are out of a Black Type mare

These candidates come from the ultimate sports mothers who jumped to the highest level:

Stallion Dam Level Breeder
Whatsapp-STX van Kattenheye Amaryllis 1.60 T & Am Raman-strobbe & Stephex Stables
Hashtag Funky F Z MoM's Funky Music 1.60 Kelly Fioole
Vee Jee van 't Meulenhof Elektra des Premices 1.60 Stal 't Meulenhof & Arnaud Bernolin

We note one stallion candidate descended from 3 consecutive 'Black Type' dams. This is Wales van 't Paradijs, a son of Ermitage Kalone out of Queen B van 't Paradijs (level 1.45m), who in turn is out of the level 1.60m dams Monalisa Van 't Paradijs and Jeunesse van 't Paradijs.

The foundation mare Qerly Chin leaves her mark on the 2025 BWP Stallion Approval.

Qerly Chin competed at the highest level herself and produced eight Black Type horses, including the renowned 1.60m mares Narcotique de Muze II, Walloon de Muze, and Exquis Walnut de Muze. These exceptional mares have carried Qerly Chin's legacy forward, contributing to this year’s stallion approval with 9 candidate stallions from subsequent generations.: Wham Bam de Regor (Breeder: Familie Veldeman/Stal De Regor), Willow M (Breeder: Stoeterij Molenhof Bvba), Wild West van het Schaeck (Breeder: Perry De Winter), VDM de Muze (Breeder: Fam.bruggeman - Joris De Brabander), Wiseguy J&L (Breeder: Bart Sunaert), Ciel Blue de Regor Z (Breeder: Fokkerij De Regor), Vileander KCX (Breeder: Karel Cox Horses Bvba), Watch Me Van Loheky (Breeder: Loheky BV / Isabel De Rycker), Winny de Poeh van het Schaeck (Breeder: Perry De Winter).

The genes of the famous Ratina Z are also popping up among the BWP candidates. Through the gamma clone and his successful sport daughter Call Me de Muze Z (level 1.55m), who is the grandmother of these 3 candidate stallions: Wonderboy van de Kruishoeve (breeder: Eric Polfliet), Istanbul MVD (breeder: MVD SRL), Choisir le Russe Z (breeder: Nabatnikov Sergei).

The Usha van 't Roosakker dam line is 'barely' represented 3 times this year as well, with Wonderboy Blue v/d Meersarena (breeder: Martin De Cnuydt), Wilson de Solart (breeder: Luc Ledoux), Hide'N Seekey SR Z (breeder: Keystud / E & MJ Sleutels)
