The younger generation of breeding stallions is already leaving its mark. Despite being no older than 15, several sires have made a notable impact on the international show jumping scene. In this article, we take a closer look at stallions with at least 25 international sport horses aged 8 and older—horses that have had the opportunity to prove themselves at the 1.45m level or higher. We highlight which of these young sires have already produced the most Black Type offspring and are emerging as influential forces in modern sport horse breeding.

To provide a clear picture of the emerging influential sires, we’ve broken down the ranking of stallions based on the number of offspring performing at 1.45m level or higher (Black Type) by age, starting with the 15-year-olds and working down year by year. This allows you to see which young stallions are already standing out within their generation.

For each stallion, we also highlight their top-performing offspring according to the Hippomundo Rating (HR)—an objective score based on international competition results.

Stallions born in 2010 (15 years old)

Within this oldest age category, we see that only a limited number of stallions meet the criteria of at least 25 international offspring aged 8 years and above. The Zangersheide stallion Dominator 2000 Z produced the largest number of sport horses in this batch, with the standout being D'Aganix 2000 Z, who broke through at the 1.60m level as early as 2024. Yet in terms of efficiency, Dominator 2000 Z has to acknowledge his superiority to the Hanoverian stallion Diacontinus, who leads this year group with a remarkable Black Type percentage of 40%.

Rank Sire Best Offspring (HR) # 8 y+ Black Type %
1 Diacontinus Diashow (HR71p) 25 40,0 %
2 Dominator 2000 Z D'Aganix 2000 Z (HR80p) 99 31,3 %
3 Andiamo Semilly Handiarys de Titoy (FR58) 26 15,4 %

Lowering selection criterion from +25 offspring to a minimum number of +5, there are still some stallions worth mentioning in the ranking of Stallions by Black Type Offspring which you can view here.

El Torreo de Muze with a Black Type % of 65.2%, has 2 offspring who are jumping at 1.60m level this year including the remarkable 10-year-old mare Fulldollar De Raygade who scores HR100p in the Hippomundo Ratings. Unfortunately, El Torreo de Muze died at a young age, limiting his offspring in the future.

The 14-year-olds represent a strong emerging crop with promising sires with plenty of international presence. The Holstein stallion Casallco is at the top in terms of Black Type offspring, but looking at 1.60m offspring, Corydon by T&L scores better with 6.9%.

Rank Sire Best Offspring (HR) # 8 y+ Black Type %
1 Casallco Acajou (HR94p) 85 44,7 %
2 Grand Slam VDL Keminko N (HR78p) 38 39,5 %
3 Corydon van T&L Phenyo Van Het Keysersbos (HR85) 29 37,9 %

Lowering the minimum number of offspring, we arrive at Akarad Hero with a remarkable percentage of 72.7%. His best offspring is currently the 9-year-old gelding Luka-Cara (HR74)

Stallions born in 2012 (13 years old)

One stallion that continues to stand out within this young generation is the BWP stallion Mosito van het Hellehof (see main photo). Although still relatively young, he continues to score high (75.7%) in terms of the number of offspring making the step up to the 1.45m level and above. His consistent production of Black Type horses confirms his status as a promising sire. With several offspring already performing internationally at 1.50m and 1.55m level, Mosito shows that he is not only genetically interesting, but also actually passes on sport quality. In the complete ranking for stallions of all ages based on Black Type %, he is even ranked No. 1, ahead of legends such as Chacco Blue.

Rank Sire Best Offspring (HR) # 8 y+ Black Type %
1 Mosito van het Hellehof Quinoa de la Liniere (HR71) 37 75,7 %
2 Diaron OLD Diarouge Blue PS (HR80p) 29 31,0 %
3 GFE Candy de Nantuel Horizon Des Partages (HR59p) 35 22,9 %

Noteworthy in this year's crop is United Touch S, because of his skyrocketing popularity with breeders, not only for his rock-solid performance in the competition ring, but also because of his first strong results in breeding.

With a Black Type percentage of 30.8%, United Touch S is already showing himself as a promising sire. Especially Untouched LB, who recently finished fourth in the 5*GP of Paris at 1.60m level, confirms that his offspring are ready for the highest level. The success of his first crop makes it clear why more and more breeders are choosing this impressive son of Untouched.

Young and promising

Among the younger crop of 2013 and later, most of the offspring are still just too young to already break through in large numbers at 1.45m level or higher. Yet there is one stallion who is already standing out: Nixon van 't Meulenhof. With a Black Type percentage of 26.7%, he shows an early indication of his potential as a sport sire.

With a view to the future, it is especially fascinating to follow which of these young stallions will continue their line, and which new names will join this select list in the coming years. It is worth following the evolution closely via the Hippomundo ranking of stallions with Black Type offspring.
