Discover the candidate stallions for the 2026 BWP Stallion Selection at Hippomundo

Posted on 06 Jan 2026 by Lien Hendrickx

On Thursday, January 8, 2026, the second phase of the BWP stallion selection will start at the Azelhof in Lier. A total of 119 candidate stud stallions appear on the list. The group for the jumping discipline is once again by far the largest, with almost 100 participants, most of whom (66) were born in the BWP studbook. The complete list of candidate stallions can be found on Hippomundo, where breeders and enthusiasts can also get a detailed insight into the pedigrees, sire lines, and dam lines of the stallions participating in this prestigious selection.

Ermitage Kalone most represented sire

The fact that Ermitage Kalone has gained considerable popularity within the BWP studbook in recent years is evident from, among other things, the 86 BWP colt foals that Hippomundo included in its database in 2023. This trend continues at the 2026 BWP stallion selection, where he tops the list of most represented sires with ten candidates.

In addition to the sires, we also take a look at the damsires, a crucial link in assessing the athletic foundation of the candidates. In this edition of the BWP stallion selection 2026, we see mainly familiar names returning, stallions that have more than proven their worth in sport and breeding.

With four entries, Kannan is the most common sire of the dam within the list of candidates. His influence as a supplier of reliable sport mares remains undeniable and underlines his continuing importance in international show jumping breeding.

Candidates from proven sport mares enhance genetic potential

Although the majority of candidate stallions are built on strong dam lines via second and third generations, the number of stallions that come directly from a dam that jumped at 1.60m level is rather limited. That is precisely why these candidates deserve extra attention, as they not only combine interesting pedigrees, but also have a directly proven sporting foundation on their dam's side.

Black Type across multiple generations

It is also striking that some stallions can trace their lineage back to three consecutive Black Type dams, with Attack T standing out as the absolute exception, boasting four consecutive sport dams in his dam line.

His dam Maxima T jumped up to 1.45m level under the saddle of Kim Thiry. She is a daughter of Elvis ter Putte out of the mare Narcotique de Muze IV, who competed internationally under the saddle of Ludo Philippaerts and is also the dam of the approved stallions Denzel and Jenson van 't Meulenhof.

Narcotique de Muze IV is in turn a daughter of the legendary Qerly Chin (1.60m), out of Kerly, who also has level 1.60m to her name. Attack T, son of Ermitage Kalone and bred at Stal T N.v., thus combines an exceptional accumulation of proven sporting achievements over four consecutive generations on the dam's side.

From the same dam line, Stal Mertens bred Aglianico di Fer. This son of Emerald van 't Ruytershof even combines four consecutive 1.60m mares in his dam line, although his first dam Lafite di Fer just missed out on Black Type status.

However, his second dam Sea Coast Ferly, third dam Narcotique de Muze II, fourth dam Qerly Chin, and fifth dam Kerly all jumped up to 1.60m level, making this dam line one of the most exceptional sport lines among the candidates. Moreover, it is one of the most common dam lines in this inspection, including the stallions Achilles Optimus - breeder: Agro Breeding, Anquitil Van 't Verahof - breeder: Peter Van Damme - De Smedt, Do It indebus-vant Koningsbos Z - breeder: Stal Koningsbos & Dennis van Tilburg bvba, Alexander De Muze - breeder: Del Mar SCS, Collin Tachor Z - breeder: Studfarm Tachor Gert Vlekken come from the well-known Qerly Chin dam line.

These stallions also unite up to three generations of sport mares in their dam line:

Wilson de Mariposa - breeder: Koen De Brabander

  • 1st dam: Suzanne De Mariposa (level 1.45m)
  • 2nd dam: Margriet de Mariposa (level 1.60m)
  • 3rd dam: Flora de Mariposa (level 1.60m)

Belmondo DH Z - breeder: De Dwerse Hagen BVBA

  • 1st dam: Rozelien Dwerse Hagen (level 1.45m)
  • 2nd dam: Jacobien Dwerse Hagen (level 1.60m)
  • 3rd dam: Felitia DH (level 1.60m)

Crown Prince EH Z - breeder: EuroHorse BVBA

  • 1st dam: Empress EH Z (level 1.45m)
  • 2nd dam: Delilah Z (level 1.45m)
  • 3rd dam: Eloise de Semilly (level 1.60m)

Exceptional grandmothers

On the maternal side, too, some candidates have mares that have proven their sporting qualities at the highest level. For example, at Ares van 't Ruytershof - breeder: Stal 't Ruytershof Bvba , a son of Mosito van het Hellehof, with H&M Luna Van’t Ruytershof Z, a high-scoring 1.60m mare from the dam line of Emerald van’t Ruytershof.

Alexander de Muze (Mosito van het Hellehof) can also boast an exceptional grandmother. He is the grandson of none other than Killer Queen VDM, who was the number one mare for many years and more than proved her sporting value.

Finally, Woscaretto KMS - breeder: Krismar Stables, whose second dam Fine Kiss also jumped at 1.60m level and has already passed on her sporting genes by producing six Black Type horses. In these cases, the sporting foundation lies not so much with the dam herself, but clearly one generation further back, which underlines the quality and durability of these dam lines.

One to Watch: Archie van ’t Paradijs

Among the candidates for the BWP Stallion Approval 2026, Archie van ’t Paradijs is a stallion that deserves special attention. This young son of Chacco Blue combines a proven, internationally acclaimed sire with an exceptionally strong dam line that has already demonstrated its value at the very highest level.

His dam, Ulricke van ’t Paradijs, is at the origin of several top-level horses. She is also the dam of Qalista DN, who recently won the World Cup competition at Jumping Mechelen under the saddle of Gilles Thomas. In addition, she produced Delux van T & L, he has been competing at the highest international level for many years under Niels Bruynseels.

The fact that multiple offspring from this dam have developed into top performers at the very highest level highlights her exceptional breeding strength. Combined with Chacco Blue as sire, Archie van ’t Paradijs unites performance-driven genetics with proven breeding reliability.

A profile that clearly makes him a true “one to watch” at this edition of the BWP Stallion Approval.
