Abdel Said wins Cannes Grand Prix with Zasou vom Claashof

Belgium’s Abdel Said won the CSI5* GCT/GCL Class 16: GP at Cannes on Saturday, partnering the mare Zasou vom Claashof to the fastest double-clear performance in the 1.60m Table A with jump-off.

Said and the Hann mare, bred by Stephan Hindrichs, were among the combinations to keep a clean sheet in the opening round. In the jump-off, they stopped the clock in 39.44 seconds, enough to secure the €165,000 first prize and the win in a class that produced a tight finish at the top.

Ireland’s Michael Pender followed in second with HHS Cyprus, the gelding bred by Marion Hughes. Pender also jumped clear in round one, then recorded 41.35 seconds in the jump-off to claim the runner-up spot and €100,000.

Germany placed twice inside the top five. Janne Friederike Meyer-Zimmermann took third with Cellagon Cascais, the stallion bred by Denis Grubitzsch, after another double-clear effort in 43.44 seconds. Jörne Sprehe completed the German interest in fifth with Toys, a stallion bred by Heinrich Wecke, on four faults after the opening round.

Andreas Schou filled fourth place on Napoli vh Nederassenthof, the BWP gelding bred by Emiel Valvekens. Schou jumped clear in the first round before adding four faults in the jump-off and finishing in 43.54 seconds.
