Tomorrow marks the start of the FEI/WBFSH Eventing World Championships for Young Horses in Le Lion d'Angers, France. A total of 46 six-year-olds and 60 seven-year-olds will take on the challenge over four days of competition. Hippomundo took a look at the definite entry list for both categories and came across some interesting facts.
Exactly 46 six-year-old eventing horses will attempt the CCSI2*-L competition, with 44 athletes representing a total of 20 different countries.
The ISH is the best represented studbook in this category with exactly eight Irish Sport Horses entered. Selle Francais counts six representatives, while KWPN has four. The Czech Warmblood studbook, Zangersheide, Holstein and AES will each send three representatives.
A variety of stallions have six-year-old offspring present in Le Lion d'Angers, however four stallions each have two descendants on the list. Up To Date is represented by the KWPN gelding Special K and KWPN mare Kiss Me Kato, while the SF gelding Fast Company and Hanoverian gelding ChinTonic 3 represent their sire Contendro. ChinTonic 3 has big shoes to fill, as he is the full brother to Michael Jung's five-star eventer fischerChipmunk FRH. Two Czech Warmbloods by Lantino will contest the Championship: Linzi and Lotus Palita, while two Belgian-breds by Gemini xx: BWP gelding Pinokkio and Zangersheide stallion Great Twist d'Ive Z take on the challenge as well.

A total of 60 seven-year-olds, ridden by 56 different riders, representing 17 countries, will compete in the CCSI3*-L to decide on a World Champion.
Just like in the six-year-old category, the best represented studbook in the division for seven-year-olds is the ISH. An impressive 22 Irish Sport Horses qualified for the championship, accounting for 37% of the entry list. Eight horses represent Selle Francais, while six represent the Z-studbook. KWPN and BWP each have three seven-year-olds in the championship.
One stallion sticks out with the number of offspring in this competition. Six descendants, all Irish-bred, of the Quick Star-son O.B.O.S. Quality, are entered in the championship for seven-year-old eventing horses. Heads Up, MHS Brown Jack, Ultimate Quality, LEB Empress, Shanaclough Quality Clover and Claragh Olala are all by O.B.O.S. Quality and will be representing either Great Britain or Ireland. Three more stallions each have two offspring in the competition for seven-year-olds. Kannan is represented by ISH gelding Cooley Snapchat and Z-mare Keenabout Wonderland Z, while SF mare Elastic Girl de Blanche and SF stallion Elton des As represent their sire Canturo. Black Jack has two offspring on the entry list: Z-stallion Black Pearl Z and Just Jaques.
