The best stallions of 2006 (15 years old)

Posted on 14 Sep 2021 by Kim Falkena

Today, Hippomundo takes a look at the stallions born in 2006, which are currently 15 years old. Their oldest offspring are now 11 years old, which is an age where they have been able to prove themselves in the sport. In the database of Hippomundo we find 25 stallions born in 2006 that have at least ten offspring active in the international sport.

Bustique, the son of Indoctro out of a Grannus mother, is the stallion whose offspring win on average the highest amount of prize money. Bustique is approved by the KWPN and performed at 1.45m level himself. In our database you can find 38 registered offspring of Bustique. In total, the offspring earned just over €350.000, which brings the average to €9,283. His best offspring at the moment is Beauville Z, who recently won the individual bronze medal at the Olympic Games with Maikel van der Vleuten.

In second place is the AES and Zangersheide-licensed stallion Aganix du Seigneur Z whose offspring have won on average of €6,216 each. Jos Lansink competed the stallion in the 1.60m Grand Prix of Mannheim. Aganix is the son of Ogano Sitte crossed with a Chellano Z-dam. His most successful descendant is the approved stallion Agana van het Gerendal Z, who is ridden by US-rider Lillie Keenan.

The stallion in third place, Congress 4, has only 11 registered offspring in our database, but has the highest winning percentage of all 15-year-old stallions. The offspring of the son of Cornet Obolensky have won an average of €4,413. It is striking that Congress, like the ranking leader Bustique, is bred out of a Grannus mother. Congress is approved for the Westfalia studbook. His best offspring is Concordess NRW, who Philipp Schulze Topphoff is showing at the highest level.

Gitano V Berkenbroeck takes fourth place with an average of €4,245. The descendant of Nabab de Reve is approved for the BWP studbook. The stallion himself performed at 1.60m level under the saddle of the Italian Juan Carlos Garcia.  Two offspring raised the average of this stallion: La Costa (ridden by Spaniard Ismael Garcia Roque) and Lightning(ridden by Italian Luca Marziani), who both jump at 1.60m level.

Based on total income (€261,071) Baltic VDL (Quaprice Bois Margot x Jus de Pomme) would rank behind Bustique in the ranking, however, with 73 offspring Baltic VDL finishes in fifth place in the ranking of average prize money won by his offspring with €3,576. Until 2019 he was competing in the sport where he mainly performed at 1.45/1.50m level and had many placings with James Billington and Jur Vrieling. The best Baltic progeny at the moment is Leone Jei ridden by Martin Fuchs. Last week this combination won the individual silver medal at the European Championships in Riesenbeck.
