The best performing Danish horse of the past year is the approved stallion Lagavulin 2. The son of Ludwigs As out of a mother by Stakkato Gold was bred by Linus Carmitz and won well over €22,000 in prize money during the past 365 days. Up until August of last year, Lagavulin was ridden by Frenchman Mathieu Billot who piloted the stallion to several wins in Grimaud, St Tropez, including a victory in the two-star Grand Prix in June. Later, Swedish rider Nicklas Sjöberg took over the reins.

With a winning sum of almost €19,000, the Holsteiner gelding Caracas settles for second. The breeding product of Peter Marcussen is a son of Cachas out of the 1.60m-performing mare Velerne ASK by Cosimo 30. Mexican rider Eugenio Garza Perez rode Caracas during the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, USA where the pair picked up several top ten placings in the national division and the international five-star classes.

With just €90 short of second place, the Oldenburg mare Pia Contra completes the podium. From the breeding programme of the Tailormade Horse Aps, Pia Contra is a daughter of Conthargos out of Tailormade Pia Blue by Chacco Blue, who is the full sister to Tailormade Chaloubet (1.60m) and Chaccalou(1.45m). Pia Contra was bred to perform with an impressive motherline as her granddam is the 1.55m-performer Baloupetra by Baloubet du Rouet, who is also the mother of four 1.60m horses. Pia Contra herself competes under the saddle of Mexican rider, Nicolas Pizarro and the pair have numerous top ten placings to their name during the winter circuit in Mexico, including a two-star Grand Prix win in September.

The Danish warmblood Lykkehøjs Castus, bred by Charlotte Rasch as a son of Casir ASK and a mother by Carano lands just outside the podium with a winning sum of almost €15,000. The top five is completed by the Holstein stallion Darc de Lux by Darco out of a Contender-mother. The breeding product of Morten Augustinus won almost €9,000 in international competitions during the past 365 days.
