Based on ‘total earnings’ from begin January 2017 to begin January 2018, the BWP progenitor Darco is leading the most recent Hippomundo ‘sire of dam’ ranking. In terms of ‘number of horses’, Darco is ranked second with 315 horses, 7 less than Quidam de Revel. Under the saddle of Ludo Philippaerts, Darco caused a furore in the international showjumping world. They won for instance the World Cup in London (1988) and ‘s-Hertogenbosch (1989), ended 6th during the Stockholm 1990 World Equestrian Games and 7th during the Barcelona 1992 Olympic games. In the Hippomundo ‘sire’-ranking Darco is ranked 36th, thanks to performers such as Codarco, Indiana van ’t Heike, Winningmood, L.B. Eagle Eye, Navarro UK and Iron Man van de Padenborre. We see the influence of Darco as sire, but also as sire of dams. International showjumpers, such as Bull Run’s Faustino de Tili, VDL Glasgow van het Merelsnest, Fair Light van ’t Heike, Ilex VP, Sea Coast Ferly and Identity Vitseroel are all born out of daughters of Darco. In the top 100 we see that daughters of Darco are often crossed with Diamant de Semilly, Nabab de Rêve and Vigo d’Arsouilles.
Kannan is ranked second. This son of Voltaire performed at the highest level. Several of his descendants followed or are following in his hoofprints, amongst them Nino des Buissonnets (golden medal during the London 2012 Olympic games), Quabri de l’Isle, Molly Malone V and Sherkan d’Amaury. The influence of Kannan as ‘sire of dam’ is even greater. Last week, Zinius won masterly the World Cup-class in Mechelen. Zinius is a son of Nabab de Rêve out of a daughter of Kannan. Many other daughters of Kannan produced international showjumpers. Chacanno, IQ van het Steentje, Bacardi VDL, Quatrin de la Roque, Bacara d’Archonfosse and many others are born out of daughters of Kannan. In the top 100 we frequently see combinations of Diamant de Semilly, Toulon, Chacco-Blue, Kashmir van Schuttershof, Quick Star and Corland with daughters of Kannan.
Heartbreaker is ranked third, thanks to outstanding showjumpers such as Grand Cru van de Rozenberg, Silver deux de Virton HDC, For Joy van ’t Zorgvliet, Grand Cru van de Vijf Eiken and Forlap. They are all born out of daughters of Heartbreaker. In the top 100 the Heartbreaker-dams were mostly crossed with Clinton, followed by other stallions, such as Berlin and Numero Uno.
We also see a very great influence of the French progenitor Almé. In the top 25 ‘sire of dam’ Almé is represented several times: 6th place Baloubet du Rouet (his sire, Galoubet A, is by Almé), 12th place Nabab de Rêve (his sire, Quidam de Revel, is a grandson of Almé), 13th place Quick Star (by Galoubet A), 15th place Papillon Rouge (his sire, Jalisco B, is by Almé), 16th place Quidam de Revel (by Jalisco B), 18th place Acord II (his sire, Ahorn Z, is by Almé) and finally at rank 21 Andiamo Z (his sire, Animo, is by Almé).
