Behind the scenes, studbooks play a crucial role in shaping the success of show jumpers. Their meticulously maintained records of breeding lines and pedigrees provide valuable insight into the genetic legacy of the best-performing horses. Studbooks are responsible for preserving and improving specific horse breeds, and their ranking can serve as a measure of the effectiveness of their breeding programs.
Since 2015, Hippomundo has been collecting all international results which provides a huge source of data and allows us to analyze Grand Prix (GP) winners by studbook at the international level.
BWP provides most GP5* winners
The studbook of the Belgian Warmblood (BWP) horse has consistently produced exceptional showjumpers, brilliant at the very highest Grand Prix level. Since 2015, BWP horses have won 92 five-star Grand Prixs. Gazelle ter Elzen, bred by Werner Heuninckx-Van Hoornyck in Belgium, is the leader in winning 5*GPs. This Kashmir van Schuttershof daughter won no less than 13 five-star GP's since 2015! Check out Gazelle's palmares here. Also Gancia de Muze of breeder Perry De Winter was phenomenon with 9 five-star GPs on her palmares.
