The world's most successful sport mares dominate international competitions and earn millions in prize money. Increasingly, these top sport mares are also used in breeding. Owners and breeders see their value not only in the ring, but also as the mother of the next generation of top mares. The big question is: Do these mares succeed in passing on their sporting success to their offspring? “

In this article, we analyze the top sport mares since 2015 - based on prize money - and examine their impact in breeding. Please note that some of these mares are still active. How many offspring do they already have? How many of them are active in the sport? And are they producing future 1.60m champions? Will their foals reach as much million-dollar value as their mothers did in the sport? We dive into the numbers and find out whether these champions triumph not only in the ring, but also in breeding.

In the Top 20 of most successful mares, we note that these mares have hardly been used in breeding during their sport careers. Although the No. 1 mare HH Azur has no registered offspring on Hippomundo yet, the auction hammer announced the launch of her breeding career last year with some expensive embryos. The mare Fit For Fun also looks to become a big earner in breeding. At a young age, she became the dam of the now approved stallion Camargo, who successfully jumped to 1.60m level. For the foals born after her sports career, buyers are investing substantial amounts of money.:

The foals of Gancia de Muze are also highly coveted, and production is running at full speed with 16 registered foals, as is Lizziemary with 17 registered foals. From the top mare Gazelle we count so far barely 3 offspring, but all 3 of them were running in the sport with the most successful Ninja JW van de Moerhoeve, who gave a 1.50m horse herself.

The world's most successful sport mares have already proven their talent in the ring, but their role in breeding remains a fascinating issue. Our analysis shows that an impressive sport history can form a promising basis. Some champions immediately produce striking offspring, while others have yet to prove that their genes triumph beyond the competition ring.

What is certain is that breeding increasingly looks to these elite mares as building blocks for the next generation. The next few years will show whether elite mares not only win prizes in the arena, but also shape the future of breeding.
