The breeding season is now well underway and Hippomundo has compiled a ranking of the most successful show jumping stallions on the international scene based on their progeny's results. For this ranking, the stallions with over 50 competing progeny since the beginning of 2023 were chosen.

Stakkato Gold leads the pack with 63 products

Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve and Kashmir van Schuttershof follow in second and third place respectively. Catoki and Toulon complete the top 5.

Born in 2001, Stakkato Gold is the son of Stakkato and Wertherröschen (by Werther), both of whom competed at a high level. Currently, his progeny have earned an average of €5,573 per horse since the beginning of the year. Stargold, Marcus Ehning's partner, is his best representative at the moment. The pair notably won the CSI5* GP of Doha at the end of February and finished second in the World Cup GP of Basel in mid-January.

Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve ranks second in the ranking with 111 progeny, whose average earnings per horse are €5,191. His best representative is HH Azur, McLain Ward's great mare who has earned €354,480 since the beginning of the year. The pair notably won the CSI5* GP of 'S Hertogenbosh. Thunder Van De Zuuthoeve is a BWP stallion, son of Argentinus and Jura van Sint-Maarten by Nimmerdor. Three other horses from the same dam are also black-type: Wunder Boy Van De Zuuthoeve, Mackintosh (by Calvados), and Voltaire van de Zuuthoeve (by Guidam).

Kashmir van Schuttershof completes the podium with 50 progeny earning an average of €4,869 per horse. The son of Nabab de Rêve and a mare by Tenor Manciais, Kashmir van Schuttershof, is an SBS stallion born in 1994. His own sister Sissi van Schuttershof also competed at 1.60m level. Today, among his progeny, we can cite H&M Indiana, who serves as an ambassador for her father on the international scene. With her Swedish rider Malin Bayard Johnsson, the mare notably finished second in the GP of the Global Champions Tour stage in Mexico.

Catoki, the son of Cambridge and a mare by Zilvester, ranks fourth with 63 competing progeny, like the leader Stakkato Gold. None of his progeny have earned more than €100,000 like the previous stallions. However, four of his progeny have earned over €30,000 since the beginning of the year: Catover, Coquelicot vh Heuvelland Z, Catoki, and Amsterdam 27.

Toulon completes the top 5 with 203 competing progeny, the highest number of progeny in this top 5. The average earnings of all his progeny are €4,172 per horse. Pius Schwizer's partner, Vancouver de Lanlore, is his best representative with €196,671 in earnings since the beginning of the year. Toulon is a BWP stallion, son of Heartbreaker and Nikita (by …). His dam has also produced two other black-type horses, including his own brother Vancouver d'Auvray.

Some interesting notes from the Top 30 stallions ranking

Several stallions in the top 30 are from the same sire. Quidam de Revel has three sons and even a grandson, Luidam, in the ranking. Mr Blue, Stakkato, and Diamant de Semilly also have two sons each in the ranking.

Diamant de Semilly, despite passing away last year, still holds the highest number of international competition products in 2023 with 556.

Some stallions in the ranking have very few products. Kashmir van Schuttershof only has the minimum of 50 products and is in the top three. Behind him, Luidam has 53 products (18th), and Plot Blue is 9th with 56 products.

In terms of studbooks, the Holstein studbook dominates the ranking with 8 representatives, followed by the BWP studbook with 7 representatives and the KWPN studbook with 4 representatives.
