Launch of the Belgian Horse Hub: A Global Ambition for the Flemish Horse Sector

Flanders is putting its horse sector in the global spotlight with the launch of the Belgian Horse Hub. This initiative, led by PaardenPunt Vlaanderen and supported by the Flemish government and leading organizations within the Flemish horse industry, marks a new milestone in the international positioning of Belgium as a leading equestrian country.

The Belgian Horse Hub mission

The Belgian Horse Hub was founded with the aim of strengthening the global presence and network of the Flemish horse sector. By encouraging collaborations, connecting stakeholders and demonstrating expertise within the sector, the hub opens up new opportunities for companies offering various equestrian products and services.

The hub provides the following support:

For the Belgian horse sector:

  • Promote the Flemish horse sector and its stories through press publications and social media.

  • Facilitating connections with international stakeholders for individual companies and organizations.

  • Organizing networking events and dialogue sessions to promote collaboration, knowledge exchange and partnerships within the sector.

  • Act as a central point of contact for all questions about international business.

  • Offering resources such as data via HippoMundo, as well as photos and videos, to strengthen organisations' marketing and communication strategies.

For the international horse community:

  • The reliable contact for questions about accommodation, training, horse transactions and more in Belgium.

Connecting international stakeholders with Belgian experts and service providers.

Why Belgium?

Belgium is recognised worldwide for its excellent equestrian sector. The country is home to top breeders, talented professionals and innovative companies. With a central location in Europe and a rich tradition, Belgium has established itself as a key location in international equestrian sports.

Heritage:

Belgium's horse tradition dates back to the Belgian draft horses that powered the post-war economy. Since the 19th century, Belgium has had a leading role in global horse exports.

Horses:

About 30% of all horses participating in show jumping championships are Belgian-bred. Belgian Warmblood horses are ever-present at the top, and the country is also famous for its Arabians, thoroughbreds and draught horses.

Services and products:

From fencing and floors to animal care, logistics, nutrition and technological solutions – Belgian expertise excels in every corner of the horse sector.

Central hub:

Located in the heart of Europe, surrounded by prestigious competitions and breeding regions, and equipped with airports and even a “horse hotel”, Belgium is the ideal gateway for equestrian travel.

Training and riders:

Belgium has world-class equestrian centres and trainers who have taken riders and teams to the top. Belgian riders excel in guiding horses to their highest potential.

Innovation with Hippomundo

A notable aspect of the hub is the integration with Hippomundo. Here, Belgian-bred horses receive visible recognition with the Belgian Horse Hub logo displayed in their pedigree. This emphasises the quality and origin of these horses and strengthens Belgium's international reputation.

The future of the Belgian horse sector

The Flemish government continues to invest in the horse sector. Since 2022, there has been specific financial support to unite the knowledge and expertise of the best breeders. This is now being expanded to the entire equestrian sector, with a focus on collaboration between breeders, riders and suppliers. An ambitious goal is to organize the European Championships for all equestrian disciplines in Belgium in 2027.

With the launch of the Belgian Horse Hub, Flanders shows that it is ready to play a leading role in global equestrian sports. The platform promises not only to connect the sector, but also to increase Belgium's visibility on the world stage.
