As every month, Hippomundo offers the portrait of a stallion that stands out by his results or those of his offspring. This month, Casallco is in the spotlight. This 15-year-old stallion already ranks in the top 10 of sires with the highest rate of black-type offspring.
A well-structured pedigree
Casallco is a 15-year-old Holsteiner stallion, born in 2011 at F.J.M. Vrenken's. He is by Casall out of Zelda IV (by Contender).
Casallco's dam produced only one other foal, born in 2013. Zelda IV is the full sister of Chocoprince who competed up to 1.45m under Loewie Joppen (NED). His half brother Chasseur ASK Z (by Casall ASK) was a 5-year-old finalist at the World Championships in Lanaken and competed up to 1.45m. He was sold as a foal for €43,000 at the Zangersheide sales. Super Nova, his half sister by Casall ASK, competed at CSI4* under British rider Laura Mantel.
A stallion in the spotlight
Casallco made a name for himself from an early age. He went under the foal hammer and was knocked down for €26,000 at the Prinsjesdagveiling auction in 2011. Then, he became vice-champion at the Oldenburg stallion approval, receiving three 10/10 marks during his testing.
He began international competition at age 7 with German rider Bastian Freese. From age 8 he competed under Philip Rüping (GER). Together the pair performed up to CSI5*. Among their best results are:
- Winner of the GP CSI2* in Opglabbeek (BEL)
- 2nd in the GP CSI2* in Paderborn (GER)
- 2nd in the GP CSI3* in Herning (GER)
- 4th in the Sires of the World class in Lanaken (BEL)
- 5th in the Nations Cup of Drammen (NOR)
- 6th in the GP CSI4* in Stockholm (SWE)

Although Casallco is only 15, he ranks 4th among stallions with the highest percentage of black-type offspring at 52.3% (See the ranking). Today Hippomundo lists 706 offspring in its database, 107 of which are older than 8. His oldest offspring will be 12 years old in 2026.
Among his top-performing offspring are:
- Acajou (HR 79) who competes at CSI5* under Ilan Bluman (COL) and won the CSI4* in Ocala (USA) last year.
