The auction season is in full swing. Hippomundo has worked with almost 150 different auctions since the start of the year in providing pedigree information. Thanks to our extensive database, it is easy to see which stallions' offspring are particularly popular based on their selling prices. Today, we take a look at the auction prices of two, three, four and five-year-olds and above to discover which stallions' offspring bring in the most money.
For the purpose of this article we will only take into consideration the stallions that have sold a minimum of five offspring in auction this year and take a look at the average prices that these products were sold for.
Two-year-olds
Since the start of 2022, a total of 21 two-year-old Cornet Obolensky products were sold in auctions this year. That is the highest number of any other sire in that age category. He is also the only sire to have sold over 5 two-year-old products in auction since the start of the year. On average, two-year-olds by Cornet Obolensky sold for €12,762 each so far into 2022. The Westphalian filly, Charlotte, out of a dam by Captain Fire, was the most expensive two-year-old by Cornet Obolensky to go under the hammer this year, bringing in €25,500.
Three-year-olds
Among three-year-old horses, El Barone 111 Z has sold the most products in auction. Sticking to the theme of his suffix, 11 El Barone 111 offspring aged three years old were sold in auction so far this year. However when discussing the highest average price, we need to turn our attention to Prestige van het Kluizebos. At just seven years old himself, he has seen five three-year-old products go under the hammer this year for an average price of €43,600 each. This mostly thanks to one outlier. T ry Me-K van Katteneye sold for €140,000 in the BWP Top Stallion Auction way back in January. His third dam is Gregory Wathelet and Kevin Staut's former 1.60m horse Banda de Hus with several top level performers coming from that damline.
Four-year-olds
Most four-year-olds sold in auctions so far in 2022 were sired by Chacoon Blue. 52 of his products hit the sale this year bringing in on average almost €55,000 each. One stallion's average price however lay even higher. While just 10 four-year-olds by Eldorado van de Zeshoek TN were sold in auction so far this year, they brought in on average €67,200 each. Elmietta PS out of a Chacco-Blue dam sold for €215,000 in the Schockemöhle Auction in the beginning of September.
Five-year-olds and older
It seems that Chacoon Blue isn't only popular in the four-year-old division. For the horses aged five or older sold in auctions since the start of the year, Chacoon Blue has proven to be one of the most sought-after sires. Eight Chacoon blue products aged five or older went under the hammer this year bringing in an average amount of €92,000 each. Just one stallion did better. 14 Cornet Obolensky descendants of five years old or older were sold in auction so far this year. They brought in an average price of €93,571. The seven-year-old Zangersheide gelding Crocant Z reached the highest price. The son of 1.45m jumper Stracciatella, by Stakkato, sold for €390,000 in the Equbreeding.Auction back in September.
