Breeding advice for mares by Chacco-Blue, Toulon & Indorado

Posted on 21 Dec 2021 by Kim Falkena

This month we will discuss three new stallions with breeding advice. This time we are giving breeding recommendations for broodmares by Chacco-Blue, Toulon and Indorado. Hippomundo can provide well-founded breeding advice based on the data from international competitions in our database.  In doing so, we use the sire of the dam ranking, then we look at which offspring are jumping at 1.45m level or higher. The direct sires of these offspring are then listed and we see which combination occurs most often. This can be seen in the figures.

Chacco-Blue

In our database there are 244 descendants of breeding mares by Chacco-Blue in 2021. Of these, 104 are competing at 1.45m level or higher. Based on the number of Black Type offspring, two stallions jump out. The combination of Conthargos with a a Chacco-Blue mother produced no less than 20 international show jumpers that jump 1.45m or higher. Also Diarado jumps far above the rest with 13 direct offspring and another three offspring through his son Tailormade Diarado's Boy.

Stakkato blood also seems to fit well with breeding mares by Chacco-Blue. Stakkato himself had two descendants at Black Type level. Through his two sons Stakkatol and Loro Piana Filou de Muze he had another four and two indirect offspring at that level.

Two stallions with Contender as their grandsire, HH Messenger and Contendros 2, are also doing well with Chacco-Blue dams. HH Messenger has four international Black Type offspring and Contendros 2 has two.

The highest earning offspring with Chacco-Blue as damsire is Centriko Volo by Centadel. His best performance this year was a third place in the CSI4* 1.60m GP of Saugerties, NY (USA).

Toulon

Since 2015, 250 offspring from broodmares by Toulon have been registered in the Hippomundo database, of which 85 are currently classified as 1.45m or higher jumpers. It is very noticeable that mainly Belgian stallions seem to pair well with a mare by Toulon. Of the 15 horses with two or more Black Type offspring out of a Toulon mother, 7 are registered with the BWP.

With 6 international jumpers at 1.45m level or higher, Nabab de Reve seems to be the best fit with broodmares by Toulon. Nabab de Reve's son Edjaz van 't Merelsnest also has two descendants at Black Type-level.

Toulon himself is a descendant of Heartbreaker, out of a Jokinal de Bonival-mother. It is striking that three stallions, who gave two or more times a Black Type horse in combination with a Toulon mother, also have Heartbreaker in their pedigree. Heartbreaker is the direct sire of Va-Vite(2) and the dam's sire of Deauville de la Vie (4) and Bentley vd Heffinck (2).

In addition, the Darco blood also appears several times. Darco is the sire of Nonstop(4) and Bamako de Muze(2) and is also the dam's sire of Edjaz van het Merelsnest.

The foundation sires Kannan, Diamant de Semilly, Chacco-Blue and Clinton are also doing well with Toulon broodmares with respectively five, four, three and two offspring.

Two horses, bred to a mother by Toulon, won more than €100,000 in prize money since 2015. The outlier is Atome Z, who has no less than €472,029 on the counter. The Deauville de la Vie progeny, Just Nice van het Indihof, is in second place with a win total of €150,185.

Indorado

Since 2015, 298 horses with a dam by Indorado have been registered in our database. The 113 offspring running at Black Type level have 71 different sires. Indorado seems to fit well with many different bloodlines, yet a couple of them stand out.

The stallion who in combination with Indorado most often resulted in a Black Type horse is VDL Zirocco Blue N.O.P. with a total of 7 times. Besides Zirocco Blue, nine other VDL stallions have two or more international offspring at Black Type-level: VDL Cardento(3), Harley VDL (3), VDL Corland (3), Azteca VDL (3), Zavall VDL(2), VDL Veron (2), Baltic VDL (2) and Dakar VDL(2).

Heartbreaker follows with four direct offspring and another eight through his sons Harley VDL (3), Action-Breaker (3) and Quasimodo vd Molendreef (2), the last two stallions both having Lys de Darmen as their dam's sire.

Indoctro paired with Indorado, like Heartbreaker, has four horses competing at international level. Through his son Azteca VDL there are three more offspring. Indoctro's sire is Capitol I and he is also the sire of VDL Cardento.

VDL Cardento who also has three descendants out of a mother of Indorado.

If we look at Indorado's sire of the dam ranking based on the prize money won, we see that three offspring have won more than €100,000 in prize money.  The Action-Breaker progeny Dobra de Porceyo leads the way with €244,253 in prize money, thanks to several victories under the American rider Schuyler Riley. Gakhir, a son of Spartacus TN ridden by Canadian Erynn Ballard, also won more than €200,000 of prize money. In third place is Coleman with a win total of €181,492.
